Day 3
May 28(Sat)
09:00-09:50
Plenary Lecture 3 E
Channel 1 (Vista Hall 1) Overview
Dr. Elisseeff is the Morton Goldberg Professor and Director of the Translational Tissue Engineering Center at Johns Hopkins Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Wilmer Eye Institute. Biomaterial implants have a long history in the clinic but regenerative biomaterials and regenerative medicine therapies in general have been slow to reach patients. Clinical translation provides a unique and critical opportunity to investigate the key therapeutic drivers of technology efficacy in people. Careful evaluation of clinical outcomes and (re)evaluation of design parameters is central to improving research and technology development. A key outcome of our clinical translation experiences in orthopedics was the unexpected discovery of adaptive immune cells around synthetic implants. In this plenary session, she will give us a lecture about the role of the immune system and cellular senescence in the biomaterial response and repair in orthopedic tissues and discovery of new therapeutic target to serve as the basis for the design of regenerative immunotherapies for orthopedic diseases.

Symposium 6. The Challenges in Future Bone and Mineral Research: Big Data Analysis and Application of Machine Learning EK
Channel 1 (Vista Hall 1) Overview
Recent digital world, dominated by data, has opened, healthcare-related data is also explosively increasing. If such healthcare big data is properly utilized, it could be possible to reduce medical costs, to apply all aspects of predicting, diagnosing and treating diseases. Especially in musculoskeletal health, various data such as imaging and laboratory test results are important indicators for medical judgement. In addition, it will be a great contribution to musculoskeletal health if medical big data and machine learning are combined. Therefore, we organize this symposium with three big data and machine learning experts. First, Professor Daniel Prieto-Alhambra from Oxford University will give a lecture of ‘Emerging Trends of Big Data Analysis on Bone Health’. Professor Daniel Prieto-Alhambra received formal training in Pharmacoepidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He has extensive expertise in the design, curation, and analysis of electronic medical records, claims, registry and other real world data from all over the world.
Next, Professor Namgi Hong from Yonsei University, who has experience in conducting a lot of research with big data available in Korea, will give a lecture of ‘Spectrum and Utilization of Medical Big Data for Bone Research in Korea’. Professor Namgi Hong has successfully conducted clinical research for prediction and prevention of metabolic diseases and sarcopenia using medical big data, so he will give useful lectures on research and patient treatment using Korean medical big data.
Lastly, Professor Yul Hwangbo from National Cancer Center will give a lecture of ‘Clinical Application of Machine-Learning in Musculoskeletal Disease’. Professore Yul Hwangbo is a team manager of Healthcare AI (artificial intelligence) Team at National Cancer Center, one of the future leader in Korea. Therefore, he could suggest utilization of medical data and machine learning to apply these things to the actual patient care.
Chairperson(s)

Plenary Lecture 4 E
Channel 1 (Vista Hall 1) Overview
Professor Cyrus Cooper is currently President of International Osteoporosis Foundation, Professor of Rheumatology and Director of the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit at the University of Southampton and Professor of Musculoskeletal Science at the University of Oxford. He leads an internationally competitive programme of research into the epidemiology of musculoskeletal disorders, most notably osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a chronic disease that causes bones to become less dense, weaker, and more prone to painful and life-changing fractures. Although most common in postmenopausal women, it can affect both sexes and people at a younger age. In this plenary session, he will give us an informative lecture on the epidemiology and management of osteoporosis throughout life.
Chairperson(s)
Dong Won Byun (Soonchunhyang University, Korea)
